South Bend Fourteen Lathe Drive Belts
The south bend fourteen doesn’t use flat belts. It has a Reeves drive for variable speed and a main drive belt that I believe is like a timing belt on mine. Completely different beast then 9,10 or 14.

Can some one tell me what this part is?
I’ve never seen it attached but based on the doc Ted references it looks like you have to drill and tap holes into bed if you wish to use it. Mark

Drill press spindle run out
If you can get it a part then you could try heat straightening it. If you look on YouTube Keith Fenner does a lot of shaft straightening using that technique. Basically you place the shaft on vblocks

Metric Transposing Gears - Another Alternative
I’m not too worried about it now, I’ll probably just offer them up for sale for the price of approximately ½ of the cost of the two big gears ~$90. Rationale, I could separate the current two gears an

I'll have to search out those videos. Not having to reverse the lathe would speed thins up a bit and prevent crashing into tailstock center. Mark

Sorry the part spinning was the combined gear blanks and arbor on the horizontal mill while cutting the gear. My earlier email was a bit confusing. I had tried to send the email earlier this week but

Metric Transposing gears for South Bend Fourteen
Yes between cuts we both kept halfnuts engaged. From my understanding there is no other way even with proper metric transposing gears. I'll look into motorcycle chain lube, thanks for the suggestion.

Metric Transposing gears for South Bend Fourteen
I was able to successfully make 2 – 34 tooth spur gears this past weekend. I tested out one of them in my lathe and cut a 1.5mm pitch metric thread without any problems using the recommended gear box
