Light 10” South Bend for sale, price reduced to $895. Since last post I have found some collets, 3/8”, 7/16”, and 1/2”. And collet drawbar. Missing other collet attachment parts. Located in south central WI.
Thanks! I've not touched a 9" South Bend lathe in nearly 50 years. Any lathe is better than no lathe, but some latest are much better than others. :) Bill in OKC William R. Meyers, MSgt, USAF(Ret.) Ap

It wouldn't be as good as a Heavy 10L, but it would certainly beat the heck out of an Atlas! Depends mostly on what you want to do with a lathe. The Atlas 10" & 12" lathes have an MT3 spindle and MT2

Yep. Maybe a bit better fit & finish than the Harbour Freight version, too. Though you should be able to get the HF version without paying so much in shipping. Some folks want a lathe that works perfe

Not as good. But as I've said before, any lathe is better than no lathe. The first lathe I was actually able to lay hands on was a HF 7x10 Mini-lathe. They are surprisingly good for the money. Problem

Depending on which machine it is, there is an Atlas-Craftsman group, and IIRC one for the AA-109 machines. Look for the model number on the lathe. If it's not a 109 it's probably an Sears-badged Atlas

Not a Lathe Question, but I figured one of you folks would know
Try a less acute angle on the cutting edge, and take tiny cuts, and you should be able to get it. Or grind a 3/8" square shank in a 7/16" or 1/2" cutting tool, and still take tiny bites. :) The larger

There is a indicator repair shop in Long Island, NY, they may be able to help you, and Long Island is in the name. Hope that's enough info to find them. http://www.longislandindicator.com Bill in OKC

If you're in the USA, try Home Depot/Lowes, or other hardware stores. IIRC, Steve Webb's site has a list of common hardware items cross-referenced to SB part numbers, and you might find that spring li

Opinions on Heavy 10 value
I have to disagree with you, Andrei. Not about its value, but because its name is a lie. It would be a lite 10. It's a bit over half the weight of my 10L, and the spindle bore is smaller, too. 1.358"

Opinions on Heavy 10 value
The new version of the South Bend Heavy 10L from Grizzly is $10k, the steady & follower rests, and a 5C chuck are about another $1300, together. No taper attachment listed. The stand is another $2200

Headstock oil pipe plug identification
Greg, that's close to the the standard for 1/8" NPT. You should be able to find those at any good hardware store. 27tpi is definite, OD is .405" and it should be a tapered plug. Pretty sure I have one
