Problem solved. I skipped over the part in the instructions that says to first lock the lever to the clutch shaft via a set screw on the handle. This also adjusts the position that the lever will lock

Gary, I am not sure how to post this link, but if you go to E-Bay and search South Bend Lathe, heavy 10, it is on the first page towards the bottom. I wish I could make it easier for you. John

reverse tumbler gears
Hi, I was just wondering if any one has tried the ball bearing reverse tumbler gears that I see on E-Bay? They make great claims about making the gear train quieter. Thanks, John

Thanks for the reply Mark. Can you explain to me where it mounts on my 10L? I've been looking around, but I can't see where it goes. Thanks, John.

Hi, This part came with a 10L that I recently purchased. The seller seemed to think it had some thing to do with tailstock storage, but I still can't figure it out. Any ideas? Thanks, John.

I'm not sure that you can see it in the photo, but the last two threads are definitely screwed up. Maybe a little work with a dremel might help.
