Help in centering tailstock
Jim, You can put a piece of flat metal between the points of your centers and the misalignment will show up by the way the metal deflects. It kind of magnifies the alignment errors. If it were not so

Motor / Fan belt replacement? (can't seem to raise motor high enough)
Philip, Can you slide off the motor pulley, wrap the belt around it and slide it back onto the shaft? A pointed punch could help find the center if the motor shaft was center drilled. Just a thought.
