You are right, that 16 tooth gear is a stud gear, part of the change gear set. Your bracket looks like mine. The end shot I sent ought to helpsort things out.

That is a 16 tooth stud gear. I have the lathe set up for finest feed rate. Mine is a 1946, S/N 167XXX

Speaking of the 1946 G-E motor... The short-time second and previous owner of my 1946 9C found that the motor did not run. He compiled as much info about it as he could and proceeded to disassemble it

Hobbing gears is outside my experience, but is a goal of mine. I'm part way there, equipment-wise. I have a horizontal mill and a rotary table with dividing plates. Technically, I just need hobs.
