Other than possibly not having enough swing in your lathe there are no major issues. I used a larger lathe than a 10" but have turned 100's of brake drums, rotors and flywheels. They can have burnt ha

V belt for countershaft
I think that is a Gates number but the easiest way to replace is before it breaks take it to the auto parts store and have them measure it up for a replacement.

Heavy 10 Vs. 9 lathe
I totally agree. I never had an issue with my 24" x 144" being to big, but am continually finding myself limited on my 9" x 54". The small lathe might be more practical for some jobs, but I never cons

Heavy 10 for sale.
It is nice to see such a detailed listing for a machine that is for sale. Pictures might also help you find a buyer. Also there are people that will ask for the serial number on the end of the bed. Be

Second metric gear: success!
You mentioned needing expensive equipment to cut metal gears. I remember years ago watching my father cut gears with no special equipment other than a milling saw blade on an arbor in the headstock. E

Personally I find the process amazing with infinite uses for disposable items, but I also see it as defeating the reason most people buy a South Bend lathe. If you want a lathe with cheap plastic part

You have a lathe. It is designed to make things out of metal, so make your own sleeve. The outside is easy to turn using the compound method listed in a recent post. Maybe invest the money in a mt3 re

South Bend Drive Above Headstock?
Ever hear of a line shaft? It doesn't even mount on the machine it is running. The South Bend factory drive for running a lathe mounted to the bed rather than the headstock. Pictures here. http://www.
