Lever retractable threading tool
Might have its place to use, but I wasn't impressed with the location of the lever between the chuck and tool post. That seemed like an accident waiting to happen.

Why not do like they would have done in 1913 if they saw a need? Bend a strap iron to follow the need perimeter around the gears then weld to a sheet of metal to form the cover. Then you can add a hin
