There are so many variants of these lathes that I'm sure as pointed out this method won't work on every one. On this one there is a big cast lug on the bull gear opposite the locking pin. I imagine it

Well, here's one more. I didn't like the idea of stressing the jaws by using them as a pressure point, and, anything that involves the backgears was a non-starter. I finally found two strap wrenches

Machining Lathe - general for sale - by owner on Craigslist Jersey Shore
Hey all,
FYI-This 16" x 8' UMD lathe has been on Craigslist for a while now. $995. I have no idea as to it's condition other than what the ad says, but I can see that it has a micrometer stop, taper

Re: stuck chuck
Is the shaft square in that area, or do you get leverage off the pin? I am trying to figure out how it works.

Re: stuck chuck
Newb here, first post.
Mine was stuck when I got it due to sitting for 20+ years and yes I broke a tooth on the back gear.
Make one of these from 1/4 thick plate then put it on the bull gear opposite

If you click on “View/Reply Online” in this mail, login to the web page, then click “PHOTOS” on the web page, then “Emailed Photos”, you’ll see the photos, at least I do.

Re: stuck chuck
I had a stuck chuck once and no matter what I tried I could not get it unstuck. If memory serves me correct I made a clamp out of a block is steel and bored a hole with the mill to fit over the rear
