Re: 14 1/2" tailstock taper
Sure enough, I ordered a new chuck (5/8") and over the weekend I found the Jacobs chuck that I thought I had. It was in a drawer full of tooling that I forgot about. I guess you can never have too

FS: 9A/10K Gearbox
I'm selling a gearbox for a 9A or 10K. I just finished completely cleaning and reassembling it, and I'll do my best to describe its condition as accurately as possible.
I'll start with the good:

Thanks! Yes, I used PAI-brand high-strength threadlocker. After milling the pocket, I used tag wire to spread a coat of it on all of the surfaces prior to pressing in the disc.

Re: South Bend 9A headstock lubrication issue
I removed the spindle tonight. it seems that the leak is caused by a void space in the casting. The drill never went down deep enough to go through the full distance between the spindle and tumbler

AT this point drilling and tapping is not an option. Original hole is plugged with a babbitt . There is not enough place for tapping and screwing a small screw. Hole has to hold the oiler wick.

I understand now. You had to make an adapter. The axle has an inside thread for the puller to thread into? My only experience with old vehicles is my 1960 NSU three speed moped, with the engine
