To fight this problem you need to understand it. This drawing shows what is happening. The moving vise jaw is not actually lifting off the vise base, it is rotating and the pivot point is on that

16 DP gears are usedon the Wide bed lathes.
20 DP gears are usedas the twin gears on the reversing assembly AND the Catalog 405 Workshoplathe.

I used electrolytic because, well, I have an electrical engineering
degree so "use electricity" comes naturally to me :-)
And for small parts, I can strip the rust in a few hours. I usually

For smaller stuff use evaporust works over night I had really rusty chuck emersed it in evaporust next day no rust at all.
