Question about spindle direction for cuts
I have the S-4382 "T" slot cross slide kit from Metal Lathe so I can mount a back tool post for chamfers and simple stuff. I have tried it with tool mounted upside down for normal forward spindle

Re: 9" cross slide nut replacement
Is his assessment that the nut goes first right? Or should one start with the screw? Does mr Wells still have screw stock available?

9" cross slide nut replacement
I'm going to replace that cross slide nut. Tools4cheap has them. I have 35 thou back lash and it seems like a lot to me and in any event annoying to the point I rely on a dial indicator for cuts

Re: Enhanced ship date finding file
Jim, do you mean 14.4 or 14.5? When I joined, I reported our 14.5" x 6' which according to the formulas dates from Sept or Oct '43, although we can't justify forking out the $25 for the card. s/n

keep in mind that the wider the form tool theheavier the downforce on your tool ... on a 9 inch hobby lathe about 3/8wide is approaching lots of chatter and even tool breakage.
