The advantage of EvapoRust is that it is re-usable. If you get the bucket it has a tray to put the parts in. Just soak and lift out to drain the liquid off back into the bucket.

WD-40 works pretty well combined with a wire brush. Phosphoric acid is good, and I've used Coke to remove corrosion, too. Vinegar works OK. It's acetic acid in water. Stronger acids work

Phosphoric acid is the main ingredient in these rust removers I do believe.
This is the best price I have found for it ~~$18

Re: SB Mill FS Hollister CA
I believe that is correct. I looked a little at lathe gear boxes, but for the price, not worth it to me. I'd be halfway to a CNC conversion by then...

I thought I read somewhere that they used the gearbox from one of the lathes . I always thought that gear box was a pretty slick idea .

Re: SB Mill FS Hollister CA
Looks a little bigger than mine, which is a lot cleaner, with a 3/4hp 3 phase motor on it. I think mine is a MIL4212. Am thinking of selling it. No gear box, I think they crashed it at some point

Re: SB Mill FS Hollister CA
That does look like a ton of extras. Almost a free mill if you buy the tooling. If I got a South Bend mill I want one that has the quick change gear box for feeds.

Re: Minimum Number of Change Gears
I have that set from Ebay. I have had occasion to cut metric threads twice with them. They worked fine. There are some shims to allow you to line up the gears but found them insufficient and made some

Re: Minimum Number of Change Gears
You might want to consider joining this group and take a look at how simple it is to add a stepper motor+driver and a 1 pulse per rev sensor to get all the threads you want. It was for old lathes

Make a light pass with a sharp tool & then measure with a thread gauge to see what your setup for now . If your lathe is like most lathes ( we don't know what lathe you have ) there
