At the risk of starting a war, I will recommend buying a link-belt.

How do I determine belt length?
I have a 14 1/2" swing South Bend lathe. I did a lot of work early this week and the cone pulley belt started doing a lot of slipping. It now works fine, maybe it got warm and expanded?
The adjusting

Mine too, back when they were the only tools I could find. I did discover that alox grinding wheels would work, but SiC (silicon carbide) or "green wheels" are supposed to work better.

Re: Carbide Use?
i might mention that most inexpensive brazed carbide tools are also poorly done. they can be be ground with a diamond wheel to be pretty useful ... especially for roughing and for some interrupted

Re: Carbide Use?
The other thing to remember is the tool needs held more flat not at the angle of the common lantern tool post holder. As shown in the attached old advertisement.

Re: Carbide Use?
A lot of the brazed tool bit's will need some grinding before use to remove some of the metal part of the bit for clearance .

Re: Carbide Use?
Hello,
The foil is like thin shim stock, less than 0.010" thick, cut to the bottom and edge shapes that contact the pocket. Brass can be used too.
Everything should be cleaned like for any other type

Be aware that HF carbide tools will need sharpening. The set I got had negative clearance angles.
