I doubt I'll change much about it. I'm not that interested in cnc for what I do, I mostly do shade tree engineering or what we can redneck fabricating. I work on my cars, motorcycles, tools, and

Complications converting a C to a B.. dont be surprised if the back of the apron rub on the lower face of the bed, then theres the issue of needing a gear on the crossfeed screw.

Agreed - my comment is to go big on the stepper NEMA 32 or 34. Or consider a newer Servo Motor. My experience was what sounded right for torque and holding even with a gear reduction ended up a bit

Converting a lead screw from gear to be driven by a stepper motor is common. Search the internet and YouTube. Also look for CNC

That's what I was thinking too. Can you change it over to power cross feed. I know you can add a qcgb if you can find the qcgb and leadscrew but I don't know what power cross feed would have to have.

Re: South Bend 9" Belt Guard
OK. I loaded 2 pictures. Search belt guards. In one of them i put a guard over a fiberglass cover on a 9". The flat piece on the left is designed to hook over a drum switch. I guess you can drag them

I believe you have a c. The apron lever operates half nuts for screw thread cutting. The compound is not powered, only hand operated.

South Bend 9" Belt Guard
A guy in Newton MA closed down and a friend bought a 9". He threw in some belt guards they had made up. I have 2. I don't want to toss them. If anyone is around the Boston area I'm happy to try and

My lathe is a 9 inch with a 48 inch long bed there is no quick change great box on it so I think that means it's either a 9b or 9c how do I tell which. I hope this photo of the apron comes through and

Re: Treadmill motor
One of the reasons for your success is the size of your motor. I guess the original motor on the lathe was less than 1HP , so your motor is over 2x the size of the original. That gives you a lot

On my 11" Logan 922, I went with a 2 horse 1750 RPM 3 phase motor with a VFD.
Drive manufacturers recommend using an inverter duty motor because they have more substantial insulation which can

OOPS! didn't realize you are not using a VFD on the present motor. Mine came with a 3PH motor so all I did was install a used VFD ($85) and programmed it for min 20hrz ND MAX 75Hrz. I still have ample

Interesting that you aren't getting lower than 130rpm. Are you running the VFD at full RPM? I run at 20htz on mid pulley in back gear and its about 32RPM

Re: D C Treadmill Motor
OK, agreed. Bigger pulley on countershaft?
1720 rpm doesn't seem excesive for motor speed, so are the pulley ratios non-original?

Re: D C Treadmill Motor
At some point. a smaller pulley will slip. Depending on the torque ( HP ) you are needing, you need a certain amount of area on the pulley surfaces that are contacted by the angle of the belt wrap
