Re: Will parts from newer lathes fit a 1913 model 29 lathe?
Thanks!!
@rlm_mcv and ww_big_al: Great suggestion and I may try to make a cover if the search for an original cover doesn't work out. I'm a restorer and don't mind the hunt for orignal parts.
@Roger

I’d like to buy that...but I can’t afford it ...especially as I would have to pay for shipping to the UK as well ...so I have down loaded the pics of it and I’ll have a go at making one out of

Re: SB 18" x 120" for sale near Portland OR
I wish I had time to go get it. I could scoot my SB16 over a few feet and squeeze this baby in. The bed in this one is 2' shorter than my 16. I wonder why they didn't put a center leg under the bed

I've seen lot's of pictures online of old lathes with overhead / top mount drive with car or truck transmissions in the drive . I bet there was a article in Pop Mechanics or comparable

Interesting Drive All appears to still be in operation. It would still be an option for driving an old line shaft machine. http://www.driveallmfg.com/index.php/company-profile/

The 1906 is the norton gearbox patent date. SB did not start using
that style of gearbox until 1923 or so.

SB 18" x 120" for sale near Portland OR
I'm not interested (I can't imagine where I'd put this beast), but this looks to me like a really good price for a 18" x 120" (10'!) SB lathe. One of the pictures shows a 1906 date, which I find hard

No Roger, I was just showing a visual example of what they look like
in case he wanted to make it, or try to acquire the parts

Ive got an old Series O bed hinge bracket and gear cover/door off an old Series O 9", Steve, are you sure it'll fit a 13" gear train?

He can use the later model end gear cover bed clamp and make the cover as suggested or try to adapt a later
13 cover. This is an early Series O, 9 inch cover.
