If it's in good shape and not worn out it is a very good indicator for small amounts of runout. It is NOT bi-directional reading. There's a lever to flip to change the direction it reads. A brand new 711FSZ direct from Starrett is $174, looks like all you get for that is the indicator, clamp and a case which in the pic on their site has empty slots for some rods and other things.
