Karl, I checked your photos and you do have a self contained bench silent chain drive.
I believe it's complete. This drive is worth more that the lathe...:)
I would say in the last ten years, I've seen two, one of those was not complete.
I would not alter the drive in any way, only make a tensioning devise to push the drive mount plate rearwards after you take it off
the plywood and bolt it down with slotted holes so the plate will move. if you are ever interested in trading it for a modern
HMD and/or cash, get back to me.

The pictures of my lathe when I bought it and moved it are in the folder labeled 731 rc
