I managed to get the locking pins out with a SnapOn magnetic parts picker upper. Looks like a pen and is about as long and round. It too some cleaning of the threads and lots of WD40 to wash out all of the junk from the holes but eventually I got the magnet to pull all 4 of them out. If you have rust in there or more than 40 years of dirt and oil good luck.
