Re: Another AA Question

1.Yes
2. No
3. connect direct to antenna
(Maybe sounds like your 9851 isn't functioning? It puts out enough signal that you can pick it up on a receiver if you don't have a scope)

Jim - Here are some answers:

1). Yes; or at least it's supposed to!
2 & 3). Connect the analyzer to your antenna!

Now some questions for you:

1). Do you get valid readings with resistors connected to the AA's output?
2). You don't really need a counter to calibrate the frequency; a receiver will do.
3). Can you hear it on your receiver?

Note, there are some 9851s out there that are really 9850s; there are other threads on here about that problem. If you have one of those, you have to set the crystal frequency appropriately in the software.

Another AA Question

Jim Ivy AD0ZR

Built my AA using Jack's board sold by the QRP Guys. With a DDS9851. Version 3.8.1 software. Software compiles and runs with out errors. Set the jumper on the DDS9851 as explained. Have been attempting to scan a 40M dipole. All readings are NA. Thought maybe the DDS9851 needed calibrating. Needed a frequency counter, built one good to 50mHz. tested it with my HH on144.650, counter read 144.665.
My question(s):
1). When using the analysis section single frequency setting, 7.150 0n 40M, does the AA produce a continuous signal at that setting?
2). I built a short wire antenna to attach to the AA antenna port to transmit the signal. Was that the correct procedure?
3). If I'm using the wrong procedure, what is the correct procedure ?
Using the above procedure my frequency counter does not display any reading at all. Zeros across the board. Although, as I stated earlier, it displays the frequencies transmitted from my HH.

Thank you.
Jim Ivy/AD0ZR

CW Trainers--tone shaping

bobolink <rwhinric@...>

This may be of interest to some.
There is a web based morse code trainer at cw trainer

Nothing new but the thing I noticed most upon hearing it was that the tone seemed to be shaped!

It sounded great. Which might reduce fatigue over long training sessions.
(shaping only partially works for Firefox browser--the comments say)
This was verified in the browser's java script exponentialRampToValueAtTime
But it seems to be opposite transmitter shaping we use for spectral containment. It ramps down instead of up. If I understand the code.

I wonder which would sound better? Anyway, I create a sine wave with my version of MCT2 tutor on the M5stack (DAC).
I think I'll try out some tone shaping.

Hi Karl:

I continue to het a 404 error on thingiverse for your box.  Could you send me your STL files.  I would like to try them.

Thanks 73!

John

Thank you very much! I have even got it sending norwegian letters :-)      I have modified the code from Bruce. As I have connected the display reset, I had to add the pin and put the resetpin in display initialization...

If you have "Thrusted" the document, you get a blank document, just click the mouse cursor in the blank area... I suppose you use Acrobat Reader!

MCT another PCB and box #mct

Karl Jan Skontorp

Ham fellows!
The MCT project from Jim is a very nice design/project, thanks for the good work! Some time ago, someone wanted a set of gerber files for the pcb designed by KI4PSR, so I made a set. I don't know if anyone have tried them :-)
Now I have made "my own" PCB design (with gerber files), together with a 3D-printed box. All files are published in the files section. The pdf called "MCT.4.pdf" might cause problem to be viewed. This is a 3D file, and will be displayed in Adobe Acrobat without problems. When trying, only a message/warning will be shown. Use the "Options button" and select "Always thrust this document". A blank window will appear, but just click in the window and the box is shown in 3D.

Regarding the gerber files in the zipped-archive. I have not ordered them, and I cannot guarantee that making PCBs, with these files as a source, will be 100% correct! However, I have tried to make an order at https://jlcpcb.com/quote#/ and uploaded the zipped archive. The result looked very promising!

I have not made a BOM, as I have just used parts from my junkbox. To get all inside the box, you have to solder the headers on the Blue Pill in an unconventional way. The headers have to be soldered on the component side, with the long pins through the PCB. Then it's possible to use header sockets of "Arduino type" on the motherboard. If you want to have the display pluggable, you have to use low profile sockets.

Best regards
Karl - LA3FY
