#question: How to resume tracking in DragNTrack mode?

Mark Copper

I put the controller in DragNTrack mode. I pointed towards celestial north pole, powered up, held ESC button on handpad until controller LED flashed. Then I navigated away from north and could hear the motors working. Pressing RTN on handpad stops the motors and the controller LED's begin a slow flash.

However, according to the operations manual, pressing RTN again should toggle tracking back on. But it does not do so for my scope. Am I missing something?

Thanks.

If the controller gets a command to move the mount from the serial port, it will drop out of dragNTrack mode.

Ah, that would make sense. So if the DragNTrack bit is set, basic tracking would start at power up but still not interfere with the operation of, say, the Nexus DSC.

Unfortunately, there might be something amiss with my setup as I have double-checked that tracking is not resumed even when there has been no serial interaction with the controller.

Mark,

I've experienced similar issues and frustrations related to starting/stopping/restarting tracking, so you're not alone. Some may be due to confusing/contradictory instructions and some due to me being a newbie. I think my system now reliably starts tracking at power up - and after that I try not to touch the RTN key on the handpad and mess things up. Also, I can't (yet) think of any reason I'd want to stop tracking while observing.

Hi David,

Star trails!

You can use them to calculate the position angle for double stars. An old fashioned use was to measure seeing.

Though I admit, my purpose here is looking for hints what might be causing more serious tracking problems as I have been bombarding the list lately.
