Getting Sitech to work with ASCOM

Ram

Hello,

I have purchased the sitech controller Model DSTC-1 and the pittman motor from the web site.

I will be guiding only in RA and also only using the controller for guiding, not for GOTO.

Using Sitech.exe, all commands appear to execute properly. It appears to track and slew properly.

I am using Phd 2.0 guiding as my only Ascom application.

I am running Windows 10 and have .Net 3.5 and appear to have all the pre-requisites. I have opened the firewall to PhD as well as Sitech.

However manual guiding with Phd 2.0 doesn't seem to be working. The motor is tracking fine as observed visually and by sound but none of the guiding commands are even going through to PhD.

Can someone please help diagnose and fix this issue?

Very best regards,

--Ram

I have also verified that the commands are coming through in ascomcalls.txt.

However there is no movement that I can generate using ASCOM commands.

Check that on the Scope Encoders tab of SiTechConfig, you're NOT in the "drag" mode.
Check that you're not in the "Track Only Sidereal (No PXP)" is NOT checked.
Is the scope initialized? In the textbox below the two tracking and stop buttons, it should say "tracking", nothing else.

Let us know what you find.

Did you select “SiTech DII Telescope (ASCOM)” as the Mount choice in the Connect Equipment Panel? If it’s not there then SiTech is not properly installed.

Dan, yes I can confirm that the scope encoders tab of sitech config shows drag mode unchecked.

Track only sidereal is also not checked.

The scope was however not initialized.

Initializing the scope and now it says Tracking. Nothing else as required.

Now trying to connect to the controller from PhD, it just hangs and eventually times out.

I am also noticing that the motor goes into blinky periodically. I have to restart the controller and it again starts tracking.
Any ideas? Please do note that I will be only guiding in RA. No dec motor.

Ram

I managed to connect PhD to the controller first and THEN sync the mount. That works.

Now I am able to control it by sending guide commands.

Dan, thanks for your help!

Check that on the Scope Encoders tab of SiTechConfig, you're NOTin the "drag" mode.
Check that you're not in the "Track Only Sidereal (No PXP)" is NOT checked.
Is the scope initialized? In the textbox below the two tracking and stop buttons, it should say "tracking", nothing else.

Let us know what you find.
Dan

I have also verified that the commands are coming through in ascomcalls.txt.

However there is no movement that I can generate using ASCOM commands.

I too am having troubles with SiTech and ASCOM. I am trying to get TheSky 6 to control my scope but I keep getting the error message “C:\ProgramData\SiTech\SiTechExe\SiTechDll.cfg” could not be found when I try to select the “ASCOM.SiTechDll.Telescope” in TheSky’s telescope setup screen.

I have the latest ASCOM version installed and have downloaded the file “TheSky ASCOM Telescope (TeleAPI) plug-in for TheSky 5/6 (5.0.4)” and followed the install/rename procedure as outlined in the SiTech Operation Manual, page 165. I have run the ASCOMTest.vbs, at Dan’s suggestion, and the results show that ASCOM is working properly.

I have searched through my hard drive to find SiTechDll.cfg without success (hidden files included). At this point all I can think of is that the absence of this file is what is keeping TheSky 6 from seeing and controlling my system.

Anyone have an idea as to what is going on?

Thanks,

Moon

Normally, that file goes here:
C:\ProgramData\SiTech\SiTechExe\
It's normally created automatically.
If you dont' have hidden files active in your file browser, you can go to SiTechExe->Config ->ChangeConfig
and click on the "Open Data Folder" button to go there.
You can create it, the contents should be:
LogData=False
PortNum=8000

Since it's not being created, my bet is this won't help. But worth a try.

Dan
