Senior Archaeologist – Full Time East Coast

Location:         Washington D.C or surrounding region / Remote

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Phase I survey, Phase II/III testing, site documentation, GPS mapping, artifact processing, field and laboratory analyses, and reporting.
  • Identification of historic and pre-contact period sites, artifacts, and features
  • Serve as a mentor to junior archaeologists, especially providing guidance for fieldwork and reporting
  • Conduct pedestrian and subsurface testing inventory, testing and data recovery excavation
  • Provide input and/or conduct public education and awareness presentations.
  • Creation of site and feature plan and profile maps, map reading and navigation, GPS/GIS navigation and documentation
  • Field and laboratory analysis of artifacts, site characteristics, archaeological deposits, soils and sediments.
  • Accurately recording field data and observations as legible handwritten notes and form entries or via standard digital field recording devices.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

 

Qualifications (Education and Experience):

  • Master’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field.
  • RPA preferred
  • Ability to obtain federal security clearance
  • 10+ years’ experience supporting archaeological investigations, 5+ years in the Northeast region
  • 3+ years' experience serving as Principal Investigator preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic GPS/GIS skills
  • Experience with Northeast USACE Districts (particularly Baltimore District) preferred
  • Experience with State/Federal Transportation Agencies preferred
