Position Summary

Research Program Managers (RPM) assist the Director with administration of the Center by providing oversight on long-term, multidimensional projects between the Center and sponsors. They plan and direct the day-to-day operations of Center research units according to research directives established by the Director. They develop project budget and scope of services for research projects. They provide financial oversight of these projects in coordination with the Financial Specialist, via management of Wisper records and WISDM accounts. They are direct liaisons between the Center and the Office of Sponsored Projects. The RPM plans, develops, and implements processes and protocols to support the research goals established for the Center. The RPM directly supervises two Principal Investigators/Project Managers and reports to the Center Director.

In addition to their administrative role, each RPM teaches one class per academic year in the Anthropology Department and take on graduate student advising as appropriate. They are also responsible for the public communication of the Center’s research. Communications include peer reviewed publications, publications for the general public, presentations at professional conferences, talks to avocational societies, and interviews with media outlets.

They provide the Director (at minimum) monthly updates on all projects under their supervision. The current status of all budgets and schedules are included in these updates. The RPM’s primary place of work is the UWM-CRM offices on UWM’s campus. However, their work requires travel throughout Wisconsin to direct and/or monitor on-going UWM-CRM projects and produce progress reports for UWM-CRM staff and clients. Fieldwork may be conducted in remote locations under stressful conditions and requires moderate physical fitness.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in Anthropology/Archaeology or closely related field
  • Experience in undergraduate/graduate student teaching, training, and advising
  • Meets Wisconsin Historical Society criteria for listing as an Archaeologist Qualified to Work within the Boundaries of a Human Burial Site
  • Demonstrated experience in obtaining and executing grant funding and/or secured CRM contracts as the primary Principal Investigator.
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Midwestern/Great Lakes prehistoric or historic archaeology or historic architecture
  • Experience in analytic skills (e.g., lithic analysis, historical archaeology, floral analysis, faunal analysis, ceramic analysis, laboratory management, historic architecture and historic preservation, human osteology or similar)
  • Demonstrated authorship of technical reports, published research articles, presentations at professional meetings.
  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple concurrent projects
  • Knowledge of federal, and Wisconsin, CRM/Historic Preservations/Human burial regulatory laws and statutes
  • Demonstrated experience in consultation with Tribal governments and communities
  • Experience with total station mapping and GIS
  • Geophysical experience
  • Member of Register of Professional Archaeologists
