The Northeast Archeological Resources Program (formerly NRAP) assists the National Park Service Northeast Region in protecting, preserving, and better understanding the region’s irreplaceable resources for present and future generations.

Stewards Individual Placements

Stewards Individual Placements provides individuals with service and career opportunities to preserve our natural resources. Stewards, in partnership with the National Park Service, are seeking an intern to serve as Community Volunteer Ambassador.

Position Details

Length: position is 50 weeks, 40 hours/week

Start Date: Monday, February 8^th 2021

Living Allowance: Baseline living allowance of $440/week*

AmeriCorps Education Award: $6,095 (pre-tax)

Position Responsibilities

·        Design a new volunteer framework and implement a community outreach program to support parks and the regional archeology program in identifying potential impacts and threats to archeological sites and resources within the five NPS units near Hyde Park, NY

·        This program is meant to provide a unique experiential opportunity for existing and new volunteers, organizations, and stakeholders in the areas of heritage resource management and citizen science

Minimum Qualifications

·        Detail-oriented and well-organized

·        Outgoing and able to create new points of contact with potential collaborators

·        Ability to manage large and small groups of people to accomplish a goal

·        Possess the ability to identify project milestones and the actions required to accomplish them

·        Demonstrated project development, management, and assessment skills

·        Excellent communication skills

·        Between the ages of 18-30 years old (35 years old if you are a veteran)

·        Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident

·        Submit proof of a Driver’s License and undergo a Federal Background Check, upon selection

Preferred Qualifications

·        Previous experience working with federally recognized tribes and traditionally affiliated indigenous groups, descendant groups, previously marginalized/underserved communities is highly desired

·        Experience with archeology is desirable, but not required

Housing

Park housing will be provided on site at the Home of Franklin Roosevelt National Historic Site. This housing is furnished and includes basic amenities. *If site is unable to provide housing at no cost, up to $80/week may be allocated to support rent.
