The Environmental Section is seeking an individual to join our Cultural
Resource's team in VDOT's Richmond District as an Architectural Historian.
You will design, manage, and/or conduct technical cultural resource studies
that document and evaluate the impacts of transportation projects. You will
document/evaluate/coordinate environmental impacts to ensure VDOT's
compliance with laws, regulations and guidelines; provide technical
assistance in the preparation of environmental documents/permits; assist
with the management of consultants involved in the environmental review
process and approve technical reports; collect/review/analyze cultural
resource data; serve as a liaison with the Federal Highway Administration,
the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, and other state/federal
agencies; and work with other VDOT divisions to obtain clarification of
project scope and devise mitigation strategies to reduce impacts of
projects.

Qualifications include a working knowledge of environmental laws, policies,
regulations and procedures, and of architectural history method/theory. The
successful applicant must be able to demonstrate the ability to apply
technical principles/practices to cultural resource management within a
legally mandated framework; to design, conduct, and oversee cultural
resource studies; and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Education/experience must be consistent with the Secretary of the Interior's
professional qualification standards for architectural history. Valid
driver's license required. DMV record will be secured and considered in
making a selection.
