Director, Center for the Recovery and Identification of the Missing (CRIM), Chicago, IL, University of Illinois at Chicago (Full-Time Permanent)
Description: The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is seeking a Director for a Center dedicated to the location and recovery of military personnel missing in action. The Director is
expected to organize and coordinate multi-investigator, multi-disciplinary research teams in various countries outside the United States. The Director is also expected to coordinate research proposals and organize grant development. The position requires an understanding of the policies and procedures for the submission and management of federal, state, and private grants and cooperative agreements, policies and procedures for research and research reporting established by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA). This is an annual renewable appointment (in accordance with university policy) subject to performance and continued availability of funding.
· Provide leadership and oversight of the Center.
· Provide strategic direction for the Center.
· Participate in Sponsor and DPAA initiated meetings.
· Represent the Center both internally and externally through speaking events, disciplinary meetings, publishing, maintaining an updated brochure and other forms of outreach.
· Maintain and cultivate relationships with key partners and senior leadership at the University of Illinois, at sponsoring institutions, with the DPAA.
· Develop new contacts with additional institutions at the outset of new projects, when necessary. Initiate development efforts on behalf of the Center
· Create draft of MOUs with partner institutions abroad.
· Oversee permitting for investigation and archaeological recovery teams.
· Oversee operational and personnel functions related to the Center including historical research and archaeological field activities.
· Form search committees to hire staff
· Train, supervise and develop Center staff.
· Establish policies and procedures to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and program oversight of the Center’s research activities.
· Oversee Center Finances
· Provide annual report to the Center’s Executive Committee
· Provide intellectual and technical review of investigation and recovery team research design; review all research reports before submission.
· Ensure that Federal, State and Sponsor financial reporting requirements are met.
Requires a PhD in Anthropology or History with demonstrated ability to organize and manage large research teams in the field, show a demonstrated leadership background, have multiple years of experience managing large-scale projects and research-oriented programs as well as demonstrated experience writing proposals, budgets, editing reports, and working with government clients. Some experience working with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency is preferred.
Must have the ability to work independently. Must have excellent communication, presentation, organizational, analytical and computer skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), video conferencing, & other related software. Must be willing to embrace evolving information technologies of use to the position, such as Salesforce.com.
