Cultural Resources Principal Investigator  – Portland, OR

 

 

About the opportunity

Are you passionate about quality cultural resources work and superior client service? SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking an experienced, self-motivated cultural resources specialist to join our Portland office. You should reside or have experience in the Pacific Northwest and be prepared to be a key contributing member of our Portland, OR team. We are looking for this Principal Investigator to grow our Cultural Resources department an grow business in renewables, state & local and the utilities industries. 

 

What you will accomplish

  • Serve as the primary author on large technical reports, research designs, treatment plans, and other technical documents;
  • Contribute to a supportive and dynamic work environment, collaborating effectively with other Principal Investigators, Project Managers, Directors;
  • Conduct content edits of technical reports and site forms;
  • Oversee technical aspects of field research, data collection, inventory, analysis, and final report production;
  • Supervise, mentor, and support field staff in all aspects of their responsibilities;
  • Contribute to business development efforts in the Pacific NW market; including managing budgets and preparing proposals;
  • Enhance SWCA’s professional reputation and relationships with clients, stakeholders, and local/state/federal agencies;
  • Take initiative, resolve problems to ensure tasks are completed in the most efficient manner.

 

 

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology.
  • Minimum of 12 years of archaeology related fieldwork experience.
  • Prior supervisory / team lead experience. 
  • Must demonstrate completion of survey, testing, monitoring, and/or data recovery excavation projects involving archaeological investigations and preparation of final reports consistent with Oregon SHPO and other applicable agency standards for cultural resource reporting.
  • Certification as Oregon SHPO Qualified Archaeologist (or able to become qualified).

 

Preferred: 

  • PhD in a related field
  • Emphasis in Pacific NW archaeology
  • Current technical specialization (i.e. lithic analysis, historical archaeology, GIS, architectural history, etc.) 
  • Experience with NEPA and/or Section 106 processes
  • Listed as a Registered Professional Archaeologist (or qualified for RPA status) 
  • Past peer-reviewed publication record and conference presentation experience 
  • Architectural Historian

  • Ability travel regionally up to 20% 
  • Sponsorship is available for this position. 
  • Willing and able to work as a distributed employee initially, then in office once the SWCA COVID 19 Task force and your supervisor deem safe.
