As-Needed Archaeological Field Technicians—Virginia

About the Job

We are seeking qualified, experienced Archaeological Field Technicians for a Phase I inventory in Virginia. The project is expected to last three weeks. Per diem is available.

Duties and Responsibilities

·    Effectively conduct pedestrian survey, excavate STPs, and record field notes under the direction and supervision of a Dudek staff archaeologist

Required Education, Experience and Credentials

• Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology
• Experience with a wide range of archaeological field methods including Phase I pedestrian survey and shovel testing, and Phase II testing/evaluation
• Ability to operate field equipment, including GPS equipment, cameras, and tablets
• Current valid driver’s license and the ability to safely operate a 4wd vehicle
• Physical ability to carry equipment and supplies (up to 40 lbs.) and walk or hike for long hours during fieldwork
• Understanding and willingness to safely accommodate difficult weather and other environmental conditions and challenges
• Willingness to travel to a project location for several consecutive days

Preferred Credentials and Skills

• Completed an accredited field school certification
• Previous archaeological survey experience in Mid-Atlantic, and experience recording a variety of site and isolate types in the region
• Knowledge of and experience using ESRI Collector
• Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships 
• Ability to provide and receive feedback
• Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships
• Ability to resolve conflict through collaboration and communication

Compensation

Wages will be commensurate with education and experience.
