Archaeological Field Technician – Southern and Central California - PanGIS


PanGIS, Inc, a growing San Diego County based firm specializing in CRM and geospatial services seeks two Archaeological Field Technicians for survey and monitoring work in Southern and Central California. Immediate openings to service an on-going, multi-year, on-call project.


Must be willing to drive to project locations and stay in lodging for portions of the week.

For some jobs in remote locations, single-occupancy lodging, per diem, mileage, and paid drive time available.


Pay rates are $20 to $25 per hour depending on experience. Higher rate of pay for candidates with a master’s degree, RPA and organizational/scheduling abilities.


Prefer candidates that are currently living in Central or Southern California.


Field Technician Responsibilities:

  • Perform construction monitoring and pedestrian survey.
  • Familiar with using ESRI Survey123 for monitoring logs and Collector on your phone or ability to learn quickly. Training provided.
  • Recognize and document a wide range of prehistoric and historic-era resources and take digital photography with your phone or iPad.
  • Create daily field notes or logs with photos and provide daily email updates to supervising staff
  • Provide email or text check-ins with supervising staff
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with construction crews and project personnel, maintaining a high level of professionalism at all times
  • Comply with project safety requirements.
  • Comply with any COVID-19 safety precautions, including social distancing and wearing face masks.


Field Technician Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in archaeology, anthropology or a closely related field.
  • At least 1.5 years (2+ preferred) of field experience identifying and documenting cultural resources, including construction monitoring
  • Experience should include work as a field archeologist in California or the Great Basin.
  • Valid Driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Must be physically capable of negotiating rugged terrain for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
