Our historians and planners meet The Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Historic Preservation Professionals in the disciplines of History, Architectural History, and Archaeology, as well as the expanded draft Professional Qualification Standards in the disciplines of Historic Preservation and Land Use/Community Planning. Urbana's mission is to inform the future of the built environment by acknowledging the past. We educate and engage people on the history of place and the importance of recognizing and retaining historically and architecturally significant properties. We provide regulatory compliance support for owners and occupants of historic-era properties. Urbana delivers results with technical expertise, consensus-building, and creative solutions.
Urbana is seeking a fulltime Associate Historian / Preservation Planner to meet increased demand. We are looking for a dynamic individual to be a key player on our team of dedicated professionals delivering the highest-quality work products.
The successful candidate will independently research, document, and author reports for historic properties throughout California and the Southwest. Pay is commensurate with experience. The successful individual in this role will be a self-starter, detail-oriented, and capable of functioning independently and in teams.
Candidates must demonstrate the technical expertise required to identify historic properties and evaluate the effects of projects on historic properties. Additionally, candidates must be detail oriented, well organized, an excellent verbal and written communicator, and technologically proficient with experience in working with Microsoft Word and Excel. Specific duties may include conducting fieldwork, conducting analysis, interpreting data, preparing status reports, and writing all or portions of technical reports.
