PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR – ARKANSAS

AmaTerra Environmental, Inc. (AmaTerra), an award-winning, woman-owned, small business is seeking an experienced archaeologist to fill the role of Principal Investigator to lead projects in Arkansas and surrounding states. The successful applicant will work alongside our existing staff serving a variety of federal, state, municipal and private clients. Candidates must have a MA degree or equivalent in anthropology, archaeology or a closely related field and 10 or more years of professional archaeological experience working on surveys, testing, and data recovery projects, and/or in the lab. A minimum of five years of supervisory experience in archaeology is required.

Desired knowledge, skills and abilities include:

• Ability to plan and manage multiple archaeological projects simultaneously, including coordinating with clients, staffing, and overseeing field investigations, data and laboratory analysis, and report writing.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Extensive knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to cultural resources
• Experience in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and/or neighboring states
• Experience with current technologies of electronic data collection, analysis, display, and reporting
• Specific research interests and/or technical skills such as remote sensing, faunal analysis, lithic technology, the historic period, or geomorphology.
• Excellent time management skills

Successful candidates must also be able to:

• travel up to 25 percent of the time,
• work effectively in office and field contexts,
• work as a part of and lead teams,
• work outdoors in 90+ degree heat (when necessary).

Job responsibilities will include planning and managing archaeological projects (including budgets), coordinating and/or leading field crews on various survey, testing and data recovery projects, coordination and oversight of data and laboratory analyses, report writing and editing, coordination with clients, agency officials and regulators, and working with junior and senior staff in the AmaTerra Offices.
