PROJECT ARCHAEOLOGIST in ARKANSAS

AmaTerra Environmental, Inc. (AmaTerra), an award-winning, woman-owned, small business is seeking an experienced Project Archaeologist to work on projects based in Arkansas and surrounding states. The successful applicant will work alongside our existing staff serving a variety of federal, state, municipal and private clients. Candidates must have a MA degree or equivalent in anthropology, archaeology or a closely related field and four or more years of professional archaeological experience working on surveys, testing and data recovery projects, and/or in the lab.

Desired knowledge, skills and abilities include:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Working knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to cultural resources
• Experience in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and/or Louisiana (preferred)
• Supervisory experience as a field director and/or crew chief on field projects
• Experience with current technologies of electronic data collection, analysis, display, and reporting
• Specific research interests and/or technical skills such as remote sensing, faunal analysis, lithic technology, the historic period, or geomorphology.

Successful candidates must also be able to:

• travel up to 50 percent of the time,
• walk up to 10 miles a day,
• dig shovel tests to depths of up to one meter,
• lift buckets weighing 40 pounds
• work outdoors in 90+ degree heat.

Job responsibilities will include planning field projects, leading field crews on various survey, testing and data recovery projects, report writing, client interface and working with junior and senior staff in the AmaTerra Offices.
