Monitoring opportunity - Sacramento, CA


DZC Archaeology & Cultural Resource Consulting, LLC is looking for an archaeological monitor for construction activities in the Sacramento, California, area. The candidate must be local to the Sacramento area. The monitoring project is occasional and is estimated to last 2-4 months. Work days would be 9 to 12 hour days and overtime would be paid at time and a half for hours worked over 40 hours in each week. Pay DOE. Parking fees for work in the downtown area will be reimbursed.


• Conduct daily archaeological monitoring during construction project

• Report and coordinate any inadvertent discoveries with project manager

• Maintain daily notes, photos, and logs of monitoring activity and collect GPS data of areas monitored


• B.A. /B.S. or M.A. degree in Anthropology/Archaeology; Graduate students welcome

• Minimum 6 months experience conducting archaeological monitoring in a construction environment

• Ability to use GPS

• Ability to draw maps to scale by hand

• Ability to read simple engineering plans

• Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle

• Pass a background check

• Completion of archaeological field school

• Ability to distinguish stratigraphy and changes in soils

• Familiarity with pre-contact and historic artifacts of California

• OSHA and/or Hazwopper certification and experience in osteological identification ideal
