GIS-Information Technology Job Offering

Giacobbe, John <JGiacobbe@...>

Archaeological Consulting Services, Ltd. of Tempe, Arizona is seeking to
hire a Director of Information to oversee all computer operations, including
an Access database, ArcView and MapInfo GIS, AutoCAD and DesignCad drafting,
field mapping with a total station and 2 hand-held GPS receivers, and
maintenance of 25-30 Windows 95/98 PCs. In addition to direct responsibility
for multiple-project database management, the position involves managing
multiple responsibilities for 2-3 computer cartographers and a key entry
operator. It involves working with several principal investigators, project
managers, and analysts to ensure their information needs are met. Ideally
this person will have strong computer hardware and software skills (i.e.,
speak computer as a first language) and have demonstrated experience as a
supervisor and manager. ACS currently has its own server with a high-speed
data line for our Web page; once we become networked it will replace our
outsourced Internet connection. The Director of Information would be central
to the latter effort. Although a background in archaeology or environmental
studies will be viewed favorably, it will not compensate for deficiencies in
the strong computer skills required for this position. ACS offers a
competitive salary range and benefits, including participation in a 401(k)
program, once certain criteria have been met. ACS does not discriminate in
employment opportunities or practices on the basis of race, color, religion,
sex, national origin, age, disability, or any other characteristic protected
by law. We will accept applications for this position until November 30,
1999. If qualified please contact Margie Green at (480) 894-5477 or

people as possible.
Thank you for your time.

Career Opportunity!
Fort Hood's Cultural Resource Program is looking for an Archaeologist /
Cultural Resource
Management Specialist to assist the CR program manager with daily
administrative duties. We have approximately 2200 archaeological sites
scattered over 220,000 acres of the Central Texas landscape. We also have a
handful of Historic buildings to work with and other types of "Historic
Properties" as defined in the National Historic Preservation Act. Since
this is an active training facility, the position has a lot of
diversity and will challenge your skills.

Tasks include but are not limited to:
Total supervision of projects as assigned,
Perform administration duties as directed,
Supervise some projects at the day-to-day level,
Supervise some programs at the day-to-day level,
Review field activities,
Review reports,
Participate in meetings, and
Assist with correspondence,
Generally be the program manager's right hand.

The position is fast paced and requires someone with a predominant
background in prehistoric archaeology but not necessarily restricted to
Texas or the Southwest, and knowledge and experience with Federal and State
laws with an emphasis on Section 106 assessments. An appreciation for ALL
types of resources is a must. Experience with GIS, GPS, and a relational
database (preferable MSAccess) is a plus but knowledge of these technologies
is a must. We use IBM compatible PCs. The candidate should have an M.A. or
M.S. in hand but would prefer a Ph. D. As we are a federal agency, we will
be following the Interior's professional standards in assessing
qualifications.

Fort Hood's CR program is moving in new directions with its accessible land
surveyed and 95 % of these sites already tested for National Register
eligibility. We are on the verge of implementing major monitoring and
education programs. Hence the candidate needs to be flexible and personable
to work with both civilian and military personnel. The candidate will also
need to be a team player as everyone's work and attitude in the department
affects our success in protecting the resources and educating our audience.

If you are interested in being considered for this position, please send a
curriculum vitae and a letter of interest (1 page preferably) which outlines
how you could contribute to Fort Hood's program, when you would be available
to start, and salary requirements. Candidate assessment will be based on
merit. This Department does not discriminate in employment opportunities or
practices on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age,
disability,
or any other characteristic protected by law. Please feel free to pass this
on to
someone you know who may be interested. Please send letters to the address
below.
