The area is rich in prehistoric and historic sites. The successful applicant must be willing to work through dense underbrush in the variable climatic conditions that the seasons bring to this area. The project also includes the cleaning and cataloging of artifacts in the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory. The successful applicant should possess at least a general knowledge of prehistoric and historic material culture. The ability to work effectively as a team member is essential. The position will begin in mid-to-late October and will last through December, 1999. Hourly rate is $9.54. This is an unclassified state contractual position with no benefits. POSITION No. RIC/ARCH/11/15/99

Cultural resources position available with the Center for Ecological
Management of Military Lands to be assigned at Fort Richardson, Alaska,
to provide support for the U.S. Army cultural resources programs.
Position contingent upon the availability of funds.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: U.S. citizenship. MS/MA historical architecture,
archeology, anthropology or closely related field. Three years
experience in cultural resources management, administration, or
research.

DESIRABLE IN ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: Experience in
historical architecture documentation and research. Demonstrated
knowledge of traditional archeological surveying procedures. Experience
on military installations or with Army cultural resource management
programs. Experience operating personal computers and standard office
software (word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, etc.). Excellent
written and oral communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Protecting and conserving cultural resources in
USARAK control. Writing, updating, and implementing USARAK Cultural
Resources Management Plans. Conducting Section 106, NHPA consultation.
Conducting inventories of historic and prehistoric resources for
USARAK. Managing the NIKE Site Summit Historic District and the Ladd
Field National Historic Landmark. Coordinating the Ladd Field Hill
Historic Working Group. Conducting economic analysis of historic
buildings on USARAK posts. Coordinating mitigation required by the
State Historic Preservation Officer and the National Park Service.
Salary range $48,000-$53,000.

The Iowa Office of the State Archaeologist has one opening on an on-going
Phase III data recovery excavation at two Archaic period sites in Hardin
County, Iowa beginning ASAP and running through approximately Thanksgiving.
We have an opening because one of our technicians landed a computer
programming job with an insurance company (can you imagine!?).

Applied EarthWorks, Inc. is looking for archaeological construction monitors for the Alameda Corridor Transportation Project, a freight rail line being constructed from 24th street in downtown LA to the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach along Alameda Street. This is a full-time job and it could last for 1 to 1.5 years.

As this is a complex project with a multitude of issues and safety concerns, archaeological construction monitoring experience in southern California is a must; HAZmat training is a plus.

Applicants within a 50 mile radius of the Project area are encourage to apply. Starting pay is $17.60/hour and mileage will be reimbursed at $0.31/mile to-and-from your home.

Crew will assist the crew chief and Project Archeologists in the survey and
recording of sites. The successful applicant must be willing to work

York.

The successful applicant must have a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in
Anthropology/Archaeology, and should have a general knowledge of
prehistoric and historic material culture; however, the majority of sites
are historic and knowledge of historic materials is preferred. The ability
to
work as a team member is essential and experience in Phase I archeological
surveys preferred.

The position will begin approximately October 21 and last through early
