Job Description
PaleoWest is seeking one or more Field Directors for various projects throughout California. The position will be based out of our Los Angeles (Monrovia) office. Under the supervision of a Project Manager, the Field Director will oversee archaeological crews on pedestrian transect surveys and testing/data recovery excavation projects. You should be available to work full-time on an as-needed basis. Applicants local to the project area will be given preference.
Qualifications:
· Strong organization abilities, with task and time management a must · B.A. or B.S. degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field is required; a graduate degree is preferred · Must be able to walk several miles daily, over all types of terrain, and be able to excavate in a variety of conditions · Familiarity with artifacts and features common to Southern California is required · 5+ years of professional archaeological experience · 2+ years of proven experience directing archaeological crews · Excellent oral and written communication skills and commitment to achieving team goals · Must demonstrate excellent attention to detail, a positive work ethic, reliability, and commitment to working both independently and in a team environment

Midwest Archaeological Consultants (MAC) is a Wisconsin-based cultural resources management company, has openings for field technicians for an on-going Phase I archaeological survey in Southern Iowa. Experience working in the Midwest is desirable.
Qualified candidates must possess:
Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field; Completed an accredited archaeological field school; A minimum of 2-years of archaeological field experience; Experience conducting shovel testing and lots of pedestrian survey in agricultural fields; Ability to write clearly and concisely and complete notes of project area, descriptions and photographs; Ability to work in inclement weather; Basic ability to identify prehistoric & historic artifacts (not analysis); Ability to work both individually and as part of a team, and a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Ability to discern a disturbed context from a natural context and identify soils.
The project is active. Crews will work 8-9 hour days for one week starting this week. The hourly rate is $18.50 and per diem is $45.00 per day. Lodging and per diem are provided for all workdays. Position Responsibilities · Design a new volunteer framework and implement a community outreach program to support parks and the regional archeology program in identifying potential impacts and threats to archeological sites and resources within the five NPS units near Hyde Park, NY · This program is meant to provide a unique experiential opportunity for existing and new volunteers, organizations, and stakeholders in the areas of heritage resource management and citizen science Minimum Qualifications · Detail-oriented and well-organized · Outgoing and able to create new points of contact with potential collaborators · Ability to manage large and small groups of people to accomplish a goal · Possess the ability to identify project milestones and the actions required to accomplish them · Demonstrated project development, management, and assessment skills · Excellent communication skills · Between the ages of 18-30 years old (35 years old if you are a veteran) · Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident · Submit proof of a Driver’s License and undergo a Federal Background Check, upon selection Preferred Qualifications · Previous experience working with federally recognized tribes and traditionally affiliated indigenous groups, descendant groups, previously marginalized/underserved communities is highly desired · Experience with archeology is desirable, but not required
Housing Park housing will be provided on site at the Home of Franklin Roosevelt National Historic Site. This housing is furnished and includes basic amenities. *If site is unable to provide housing at no cost, up to $80/week may be allocated to support rent.

GBI Cultural Resources Program Lead Description: The Great Basin Institute seeks a dynamic professional to engage in program development in the context of a mission-driven environmental non-profit organization. Current programmatic projects include active partnerships with the National Park Service (Bryce Canyon, Death Valley, Great Basin, Lassen Volcano, Joshua Tree, Sequoia-Kings Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Zion National Parks, and the Alaska Regional Office) and the US Forest Service (Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, and the Tahoe, Eldorado, Sequoia, and Stanislaus National Forests), among other units/entities. The Cultural Resources Program Lead is responsible for ensuring projects adhere to compliance with state and federal antiquities laws, including the National Historic Preservation Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act. Developing scopes of work, responses to requests for proposals, and the selection, management, and oversight of contracted archaeological consultants and staff are also key responsibilities of this position. The Lead provides technical assistance and staff support to operations and is a coordinating member of project teams placed to perform a wide range of activities including survey, testing, artifact analysis, environmental documentation, tribal consultation, and report preparation. The Lead is also involved in outreach activities to highlight the Institute’s commitment to the management and conservation of cultural resources, and to engender stewardship activities through education. SWCA’s Pittsburgh Office has four weeks of fieldwork scheduled starting October 5th in western Ohio, with a potential for additional projects to follow. Pay rate will be based on experience, with overtime paid at time-and-a-half, $55/day per diem, no receipts required. Single occupancy hotels will be provided for out of town employees. Job Responsibilities: Carries out the archaeological component of the review and compliance program for the State Historic Preservation Office. Evaluates significance of archaeological sites based on National Register of Historic Places criteria. Assesses the potential effect of proposed projects on archaeological sites. Provides archaeological expertise to federal and state agencies, consultants, and private individuals. Make site visits as needed. Interprets federal and state laws and regulations related to cultural resources. Supports ArchSite, the state's online GIS cultural resources information system in cooperation with the S.C. Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology.
Minimum and Additional Requirements:
A graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field plus at least one year of full-time professional experience or equivalent specialized training on archaeological research, administration or management;
and at least four months of supervised field and analytic experience in general North American archaeology. Coursework or experience with GIS software. Knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of the field of archaeology. Familiarity with southeastern U.S. archaeology. Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of historic preservation, including Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and its regulations, 36 CFR Part 800. Ability to review and evaluate archaeological projects and reports for adherence to federal and state laws and regulations, and ability to apply National Register eligibility criteria to archaeological sites. Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software and database management. Experience with ArcGIS in PC environment and Microsoft programs. The position requires initiative, judgment, tact, and organizational, time management, and communication skills .This includes the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with the public, consultants, and staff; the ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines; and the ability to communicate in a clear and effective manner in writing and verbally.
