Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc. (CRA), a Kentucky-based cultural resources management company, has openings for field technicians for a Phase I archaeological survey in Wayne County, West Virginia, along the Kentucky-West Virginia border. The survey will be based in CRA’s West Virginia office in Hurricane. Field experience in the middle and/or upper Ohio Valley is desirable.
Qualified candidates must have: • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field; • Completed an accredited archaeological field school; • A minimum of 6 months of archaeological field experience; • Experience conducting archaeological shovel probe survey. Stooping, bending and lifting are essential functions of this position; • Ability to work in inclement weather; • Basic ability to identify prehistoric & historic artifacts (not analysis); • Ability to work both individual and as part of a team; and • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Crews will work 8 hour days on a 10 days on and 4 days off schedule. Two (2) 10-day field sessions are expected. The hourly rate is $17.50 and per diem is $55.00 per day on regular works days, and $41.25 per day on the first and last days of each 10-day session per the requirements of the funding agency. Per diem are provided for all work days. CRA will also provide single-occupancy lodging for each work day, including lodging for the evening prior to the first day of each 10-day session. COVID-19
Due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic, all project personnel will strictly adhere to CRA’s Pandemic Response Plan and COVID-19 Field Safety Plan while conducting fieldwork and in their off-time for the duration of the project. These documents can be provided upon request.
Candidates who meet the following criteria will not be eligible for employment with CRA at this time: • Tested positive for COVID-19 within two weeks of the start date for field work. • Staying with or caring for an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 within two weeks of the start date of fieldwork.
The following PPE will be provided by CRA in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic: • Disposable latex/nitrile gloves • Disposable or re-useable face masks • Hand sanitizer or hand wipes
While not mandatory, everyone is encouraged to bring their own face masks, gloves, or hand sanitizer/hand wipes. Anyone who uses a re-usable face mask (their own or provided by CRA) is responsibility for sanitizing the face mask daily for the duration of the project.
Each crew member will also be individually responsible for excavating, screening and backfilling shovel probes – we will not be working in teams in order to keep appropriate social distancing. CRA will review the COVID-19 protocols with each crew member the morning of their first day of employment.

Commonwealth Heritage Group, Inc., is seeking qualified applicants to fill the positions of Principal Investigator (PI), Project Archaeologist (PA), and Archaeologist in our North Carolina office. For each of these positions, candidates with prior experience in the Southeastern or Mid-Atlantic regions and/or analytical specialization applicable to these regions is preferred.
The PI position requires an advanced degree (minimum M.A./M.S. in anthropology/archaeology) with RPA registration and substantial prior experience conducting or managing Phase I archaeological surveys, Phase II evaluations, and Phase III data recovery projects; preparing proposals; supervising office staff assigned to projects; and preparing and reviewing technical reports. A solid understanding of the Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act process and the requirements for National Register of Historic Places evaluation of sites is essential for this position. Travel is a requirement of the position for job site review, occasional short-term fieldwork needs, meetings, and/or marketing, but extensive multi-night travel is not anticipated.
Applicants for the PA position must also have an advanced degree (M.A./M.S. in Anthropology or Archaeology and RPA qualified) as well as at least two years of experience directing fieldwork for CRM projects and demonstrated experience in analysis of cultural material and technical report writing. Prior experience with Trimble GPS equipment and GIS is preferred. Primary responsibilities include: leading and supervising field staff; recording sites through survey; excavating sites; monitoring fieldwork quality and reviewing paperwork/notes; conducting background research required for assessments; technical report preparation; adhering to established budgets and schedules; and maintaining appropriate professional standards of quality and technical proficiency. Travel for non-local projects is expected, with the frequency of overnight travel depending on workload. The need to travel for multi-week projects with weekend stays may arise periodically.
An advanced degree is preferred for the position of Archaeologist, but applicants with a B.A. or B.S. in Anthropology or Archaeology will be considered. The position entails assisting with fieldwork and office tasks as assigned. A candidate with prior fieldwork experience in a supervisory role is preferred, as is a candidate with prior experience as a laboratory analyst or site file researcher. The ability to travel for non-local projects, including multi-week projects with the potential for weekend stays, is necessary.

Job Description PaleoWest is seeking Archaeological Field Directors for our Salt Lake City office to support upcoming projects in Utah and adjacent states. There is potential to be placed on a long-term project with work through 2020 and into 2021. The role will include leading archaeological pedestrian surveys, recording sites, and conducting other field or office tasks. The successful candidate must meet the minimum qualifications to be listed as a Field Director/Crew Chief on a Utah BLM Cultural Resource Use Permit. Experience with the archaeology and history of the Great Basin is required. Job Description PaleoWest is seeking Archaeological Technicians for our Salt Lake City office to support upcoming projects in Utah and adjacent states. Minimum qualifications and Experience:
The ideal candidate will have an MA or MS degree in anthropology with a focus in prehistoric archaeology, be Register of Professional Archaeologist certified, and possess a minimum of five years of field experience with at least two years experience as a field supervisor on survey, testing, and data recovery projects. Previous Mojave Desert experience is preferred, and a working command of federal and state cultural resource statutes and regulations is desirable. The successful candidate will have a BA in Architectural History, Preservation, or closely related field as well as demonstrated architectural field survey experience such as, but not limited to, large-scale surveys of corridors, cities, municipalities, and rural areas. Familiarity with the National Environmental Policy Act, and section 4(f) of the US DOT Act. Familiarity with both print and electronic media sources. Preference given to those with a minimum of 1-3 years of experience conducting archaeological, historic and historic architectural research and analysis, and report preparation meeting state and federal historic preservation compliance standards. Demonstrated experience in carrying out compliance tasks associated with Federal Section 106 and State ILCS 3420 historic preservation activities. Must have the ability to report findings in standard academic formats using both digital photography, and computerized word, data processing formats (e.g. WORD, EXCEL, Photoshop, etc.). Proficient in the use of ArcGIS and Historic Architectural Resources Geographic Information Systems (HARGIS). Familiarity with Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) and Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) level documentation. Ability to provide relevant expertise and advice to IDOT and ISAS leadership as required. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple and often rapidly changing deadlines.
