WestLand Resources, Inc. is seeking archaeology technicians to perform field surveys and related work on a project near Superior, AZ and other projects throughout Arizona. Work in the Superior area is anticipated to start on or about March 5, 2018, and will last at least 8 weeks.
Qualifications
  • Associates Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Previous southwestern U.S. archaeological experience required.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork for long hours in a desert environment (extreme temperatures, rough terrain), and ability to carry equipment and supplies (up to 60 pounds).
  • Need to work as a member of a cohesive team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Functions
  1. Conduct archaeological survey field work and identify artifacts, features, and sites
  2. Record archaeological sites on standardized forms and map them with a Trimble GPS
  3. Record isolated occurrences of artifacts and features with a Trimble GPS
  4. Perform preliminary in-field artifact analysis as necessary

Cultural Resource Principal Investigator Position

Overview

Must be thoroughly familiar with Section 106 compliance requirements and knowledge of New Mexico Administrative Code (NMAC) relating to cultural resources.  Responsible for problem solving, and communicating with Program Manager and/or the Client as appropriate.  Must have excellent writing and communication skills.  Ability to direct archaeological field and laboratory studies and to ensure a safety procedures are followed and implemented.  Ensures work adheres to city, state and federal laws, guidelines, policies and procedures as well as guidelines and EEO/affirmative action policies.  This position is under general supervision of the Program Manager.  Will be responsible for managing all aspects of archaeology projects and tasks including supervision of personnel as well as meeting budgets and schedules.

 

The following duties and responsibilities are included for this position:

  • Conduct archival searches, surveys, monitoring, testing, and data recovery activities.
  • Author and/or contribute to reports and oversee report accuracy.   
  • Instruct field personnel on methods of inventory and provide verbal and written instructions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards, and guidelines. 
  • Experience with GPS devices with knowledge of GIS software and land surveying equipment.
  • Remain current on historic/prehistoric research in the region. 
  • Remain current with educational and permitting requirements.
  • Interface with clients, including attending project team or scoping meetings as needed.  Able to effectively discuss all aspects of a cultural resource project including regulatory requirements, methodology, findings, research questions, and results etc. to non-specialist clients and the public.
  • Travel with the expectation of extended time in the field.
  • Manage or be involved in multiple projects simultaneously and keep schedules and budgets.
  • Physical ability to conduct extensive fieldwork in extreme weather. 
  • Strong communication skills.

 

Education and Experience

  • Must hold a graduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a related field.
  • At least eight years of experience in fieldwork and report completion.
  • At least five years of experience supervising and providing leadership for other professionals, as well as scheduling and budgeting of projects.
  • Must be permittable for State of New Mexico and hold or be able to obtain other permits including BIA, National Forests, BLM areas, and Navajo Nation. Permitted as a NM state historian, a plus.

EBI Consulting has an immediate opening for a full‐time, permanent Archaeologist in California (NorCal-Bay Area or SoCal- Greater LA).  This position in the fast‐paced telecommunications industry requires candidates to be self‐motivated, organized, and able to meet tight deadlines. The Archaeologist will be responsible for completing file reviews/background research, conducting field surveys and fieldwork, authoring reports, and completing Federal Communications Commission Forms 620 and 621, as needed. have a Masters degree in Anthropology (Archaeology); 

qualify as a Project Director on an Arizona state permit (found here: http://www.statemuseum.arizona.edu/services/arizona-antiquities-act-permits on the right-hand side of the page); 

have at least 10 years of experience in archaeology; 

have at least three years experience managing multiple small projects simultaneously and providing support for larger projects; 

have an understanding of cultural resource compliance within the framework of state and federal regulations; and

In short, we are looking for an experienced detail-oriented multi-tasker who is able to get started in the very near future and can contribute to project management right away.
