Collections and Lab Manager Applied EarthWorks, Inc. (Æ) has an immediate opening for a Collections and Lab Manager for our Fresno office.
Duties: The successful candidate will manage archaeological collections originating from cultural resources projects throughout the California Central Valley, Sierra Nevada mountain range, and Northern California region. Collections and lab management includes establishing standards and processes for the design and implementation of Access catalog databases; maintaining Access databases for project-specific artifact catalogs; assisting with Quality Control of project-specific spatial databases related to artifact provenance; generating Access reports for technical specialist use and updating company databases with specialist data upon return of assemblages; assisting with statistical or other quantitative analysis of collections’ data; contributing to technical reports relating to project-specific assemblages; preparing artifact collections per curation standards established by federal, private, and Native American museum, repository, or curation facilities; organizing and managing the Fresno laboratory space; and supervising, training, mentoring laboratory technicians. Participation in establishing project-specific remote field laboratories during archaeological site testing and data recovery projects may occur.
Skill Requirements:
Master’s degree or Ph.D. in museum studies or archival management is preferred, or a minimum of 4 years work experience in a similar position with accompanying certificate in archival/museum management is acceptable. Undergraduate or graduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, historical archaeology, paleontology, or a related field is highly beneficial but not required. Experience with design, data entry, and reporting in Access is essential and required.
