Job Description – Project Specific - Full-Time Project Director

QRI is actively seeking an experienced field director to oversee archaeological survey, and testing, at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.  The successful candidate can work out of Alamogordo or Las Cruces, NM for the current project. QRI's cultural resources consulting practice entails archaeological surveys, archaeological testing, and data recovery projects in the Southwest and the Southeast.  The current need is to staff an archaeological survey on White Sands Missile Range, with additional projects anticipated elsewhere in the country.  The successful candidate will be required to be permitted by the New Mexico SHPO as a Project Director or Supervisory Archaeologist.

 

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, plus 30 months full-time professional experience including: 6 months under supervision of a professional archaeologist and 12 months experience supervisory experience in New Mexico or directly relevant to understanding the archaeological resources of New Mexico.  Previous experience authoring technical archaeological reports.
  • Alternative to a MA is a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or Closely Related Field; a Field School (documented on CV with location and year), plus 12 months Full-Time Profession Experience in New Mexico.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing reports that demonstrate the successful application of acquired proficiencies in archaeological theories, methods, and practices for the identification, evaluation, documentation, registration, or treatment of archaeological resources (documented on CV).
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and creative environment.
  • Ability to travel for assignments.
  • Physically capable of walking 10 plus miles a day over varied terrain.

 

Essential Duties

  • Conduct and Oversee Class III Cultural Resource Surveys
  • Conduct eligibility testing projects
  • Assist in writing the report of investigations
  • Other related duties as assigned
