Project Archaeologist
Location: Sheridan, WY

Our Sheridan, Wyoming office offers a unique work environment and specializes in energy development and National Environmental Policy Act related work.


Your role will be to assist the cultural resource program in field investigations and reporting efforts. You should be able to work flexible hours with the potential for long-term field mobilizations for specific projects.

What you will accomplish

You will be part of a team providing cultural resource support for various projects. Responsibilities may include assisting with field data management and quality control; contributing to technical reports; conducting archaeological monitoring, survey, testing, and data recovery; or curation tasks; communicating with Field Directors, Project Managers, and GIS staff through regular, scheduled field status reports; assisting with mapping responsibilities in the field, including collection of GPS data using tablets.

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology or a closely related field required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience with a wide range of field methodologies, including archaeological survey, testing, excavation, and monitoring required; experience in Wyoming and the Great Plains required.
  • Previous field supervisory experience preferred.
  • Completed accredited field school experience is required.
  • Ability to be listed on federal and state cultural resource permits in Wyoming preferred.
  • Ability to travel to a location, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, often  at high altitudes, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is required.
