The Illinois State Archaeological Survey (ISAS) and the Prairie Research Institute (PRI) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is seeking an enthusiastic individual for a Research Archaeologist position at its Western Illinois Field Station in Jacksonville, Illinois. This position will primarily involve Illinois Department of Transportation-Cultural Resource Management fieldwork with related laboratory processing and analysis of recovered materials. Assisting with grant-funded research projects is also a possibility. The successful applicant will be expected to assist with various phases of report writing and illustrative figures. Overnight travel to conduct archaeological fieldwork as needed. Must possess a valid driver’s license and insurance.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 

·         Conduct phase I, II, and III archaeological field investigations in Illinois.

·         Assist with the collection of GPS data and layout with an electronic total station.

·         Assist with the processing and analysis of materials recovered from investigations.

·         Integrate GIS data into archaeological investigations and report production.

·         Assist with the generation of report figures using production-related software.

·         Assist with various phases of report writing.

 

Requirements:

 

Required:

·         A BA in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field.

·         A minimum of 3 years’ experience assisting with archaeological field investigations.

·         Proficiency with figure production-related software such as Illustrator and Photoshop.

·         Basic computer skills.

 

Preferred:

·         An M.A. in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field.

·         Experience conducting lithic and/or ceramic analysis.

·         A demonstrated proficiency using GIS.

·         Knowledge of the archaeological resources of Illinois.

·         The ability to collect GPS data and use an electronic total station.

·         Demonstrated experience writing report sections, chapters or other manuscripts.
