The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA): Archeologist II

The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) produces and delivers electric power throughout Texas; manages the lower Colorado River and provides a reliable water supply; and manages over 11,000 acres of parklands. LCRA’s Cultural Resources group ensures the agency’s compliance with state and federal cultural resource laws and serves as stewards for over 500 recorded archeological sites within over 40 LCRA parks.

LCRA’s Austin office is currently seeking an Archeologist II to join its Cultural Resources team in handling the ever-increasing workload generated by Texas’ rapid growth. The position will be full time and salaried, with benefits (insurance, 401(k) with company matching).

Major responsibilities include:

  • Managing small to medium-sized projects, with some supervisory guidance 
  • Independently leading field crews in archaeological survey (approx. 20% overnight travel)
  • Conducting artifact analysis and preparing records/cultural materials for curation
  • Writing moderately complex cultural resources survey and excavation reports
  • Communicating with project managers, providing input on cultural resources regulatory laws and process, and also presenting preliminary project cost estimates
  • Overseeing work conducted by outside cultural resources contractors

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in archeology, anthropology, or related field (meeting the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards, 36 CFR, (Part 61)
  • One or more years of experience in archeology
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of work experience within cultural resources management
  • Knowledge of the Antiquities Code of Texas and National Historic Preservation Act
  • Familiarity with the prehistory and history of Texas
