The ideal candidates should possess, at minimum, a Master’s degree and there will be opportunities for advancement. Candidates must also have a minimum of 3 years of field experience working on and/or supervising monitoring, survey, testing, and data recovery projects and be physically fit and able to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions. Candidates should also have working knowledge of GIS and GPS software for routine project needs. Candidates should also have good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and execute new tasks.


Experience in New Mexico and eligibility to be permitted by the state of New Mexico and the Bureau of Land Management Permit Areas is required. Able to acquire permits in other states is desirable.

Job Description:

Supervisory-level staff is responsible for assisting principal investigators and/or project directors in implementing survey, testing, monitoring, and data recovery plans and for coordinating through the appropriate channels all field and analytic tasks associated with fieldwork, analysis, and report preparation. For small-sized projects, supervisory-level staff may also assume many of the tasks typically assigned to a principal investigator and/or project director, though he or she still works under their supervision. For larger projects, supervisory-level staff work with a principal investigator and/or project director and the project manager to ensure that all tasks associated with project implementation are accomplished professionally and in a timely and fiscally responsible manner.


Acts as Project Manager (PM) on projects that may include Class I and III surveys, testing, data recovery excavations, and report writing. Responsibilities include but is not limited to the following:

• Manages project budgets and provides reports to managers.

• Attends weekly PM meeting and biweekly business development meetings.

• Attends kick-off meeting with clients and agencies.

• Participate in marketing efforts and create new business.

• Manage multiple projects at one time.

• Organizes fieldwork mobilization/demobilization.

• Ensures that all data collected is accurate, organized and of high quality.

• Oversees accurate identification of historic and prehistoric sites, features, and artifacts.

• Perform Fieldwork when necessary

• Mentors junior personnel, including reviews of deliverables.

• Ensures projects follow agencies’ stipulations and guidelines.

• Ensures that projects are completed on schedule and within budget.

• Works well with project members and maintains a high level of communication.

• Produces high quality reports and other deliverables to agency and SHPO/THPO standards.

• Reports project status to Program Director and other PMs on a weekly basis.



Applicant will have the experience necessary to be listed on Navajo Nation, federal, and various state permits and can demonstrate a strong understanding of Section 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The ideal applicant will be a team player that has participated in numerous large-scale surveys, testing and excavation projects. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a high level of organization and effectively communicate ideas and processes.
