Staff Archaeologist/GIS Technician


Applied EarthWorks, Inc. (Æ) has an immediate opening for a full-time Staff Archaeologist/GIS Technician in our San Luis Obispo office.

Duties:

The successful candidate will work on cultural resources projects throughout the Central Coast of California (Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Monterey counties).  Archaeological tasks will include participation in field survey, testing and data recovery projects; construction monitoring; and technical report production. GIS work will include management of GIS and GPS data; creation and maintenance of project specific geodatabases and shapefiles; georeferencing; and production of report quality maps.

Skill Requirements: 

  • Archaeology fieldwork and GIS;
  • Certification or demonstrable skills with ArcGIS;
  • Conducting records searches;
  • Basic technical writing and report preparation;
  • Ability to collect field data using a Trimble Geo X7 or other GPS devices;
  • Ability to work cooperatively with construction contractors, tribal monitors, and other project stakeholders;
  • Basic understanding of CRM laws and regulations; and
  • Strong work ethic and good communication skills.

 

Education/Experience:

Undergraduate or graduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, historical archaeology, or related field. Experience in CRM and GIS skills required. Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) certification and California experience preferred.
