Jim Colburn

In response to historically devastating flooding that occurred in Nebraska in March 2019, the Nebraska State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) is forming a temporary group of archeological technicians to help farmers with section 106 surveys of their fields prior to field restoration, reimbursed by the Farm Service Agency. Under supervision by the NeSHPO Preservation Archeologist and the Archeological Field Supervisor, the technician will assist in conducting archeological surveys, prepare forms and maps for surveys, catalog and analyze artifacts obtained during archeological surveys and/or test excavations. The technician may also supervise volunteers in addition to other assigned tasks.

*These are full-time, temporary positions for the summer. There will be travel throughout the week. Hotel rooms will be paid for by the SHPO and meals reimbursed. Free housing during the course of this assignment will be provided by the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, if needed.
