Archaeologist – New Mexico


Audubon Field Solutions is seeking applications for a senior Archaeologist position local to either Midland, TX or Carlsbad, NMThis position will be one of the initial members of a growing environmental team. The Archaeologist will assist the Cultural Resources Program Director in the completion of projects in southeastern New Mexico and surrounding areas


The successful candidate will hold a Master’s Degree in Anthropology (or closely related field), and must have a proven track record of increased responsibilityThey should meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards for an archaeologist. In addition, the candidate should hold, or be able to obtain, a General Archaeological Investigation Permit for New Mexico State Land as well as Cultural Resource Use Permits from the Bureau of Land Management.


The successful candidate should be able to conduct Class III Cultural Resources Surveys and have the ability complete / submit a technical report to the relevant agency in a timely and efficient manner. Furthermore, it will be important for the candidate to lead field crews as well as manage the field survey effort. A familiarity with Trimble handheld GPS units and other related software is also desirable


The physical demands of the position may include the need to conduct fieldwork for extended hours over rugged terrain, often in inclement weather. 


In addition, the candidate must have a current, valid driver’s license, and be willing to travel up to 50 percent of the time. 


Work schedule is based on a 40-hour work week, but the opportunity for overtime exists depending on project deadlines/ time constraints. If needed, per diem will be provided on all out of town fieldwork.
