Native Speaking Archaeology Ethnographer/Interpreter: Job ID # 2019-2509 Email Resumes Directly To: Recruiting@... BRIC is seeking a part time project specific Dine Speaking Archaeology Ethnographer for work conducted on the Navajo Nation. The start date is Feb 1, 2019 or sooner if possible, and the position duration is open ended. All projects conducted on Navajo Nation require ethnographic interviews to determine potential impacts of a project on Traditional Cultural Properties (TCP) formal or informal; or other traditional places or properties within project areas of potential effect (APE). The ethnographer is responsible for conducting interviews with designated persons determined by the project scope of work and location. This is a project specific position requiring 1 or more days per project. Contracts will determine project specific needs.
Duties and Responsibilities: Travel to specific locations and conduct personal TCP interviews/ethnographies with local individuals and chapter representatives in support of cultural resources compliance. Document results of interviews in appropriate forms and reports for submittal to the NNHHPD. Maintain strict confidentiality about resource locations.
Skills Required: • Fluent Diné bizaad speaker/comprehension
Technical Skills Required: Precise and legible note keeping with paper and pencil in the field and ability to translate questions and responses from English to/from Dine
Competencies Required: • Fluent Diné bizaad speaker/comprehension
Physical Requirements: * Must have a valid driver’s license and own transportation to the project area(s)
Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related discipline Certifications Preferred: Listing on NNHHPD CR permit
