Archaeological Field Data Technician Great Basin Institute / Death Valley National Park
Working cooperatively with the National Park Service’s Death Valley National Park (DEVA), the Great Basin Institute is recruiting one Archeological Field Data Technician to join our program and assist DEVA archaeology staff with archaeological field data processing. Data processing duties include updating of databases and filling out site forms in support of SHPO and NHPA reporting requirements. Data processing will also include converting legacy data to digital formats, entering data into GIS, and organizing survey reports and site records within an existing data management framework.
Field work includes surveying for and documenting cultural resources, particularly survey and clearance of OHV incursions. Candidates will be trained to conduct field work with a high degree of independence, including planning survey strategies and managing projects. Completing archaeological surveys in the southwest requires the physical endurance to walk over a variety of terrains and in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat. Overnight camping for several days at a time in remote areas may be required.
o Five month appointment beginning October 2018, or upon completion of a Department of Interior background investigation
o 40 hours per week; some overtime and weekend work may occasionally be required
