D&RGW and C&S use full size couplers while SP and EBT used 3/4 size. That said the KD O scale full size is oversize so the On3 is close to SG size. The Sergent S coupler does work well in O narrow gau

Sergent does not make an "O" scale coupler. They do however make an "S" scale coupler. The "S" coupler is 3/4 size "O" which is same as "On3". Kadee does the same thing. Their "On3' & "S" couplers are

Slack action Was Where to purchase
I agree, coupler accordion/coupler bob is a real problem with Kadee 713 and 714 couplers as used in HOn3. I don’t model HO standard gauge, so I can’t speak for those. There is another source for Serge

Andy, You are absolutely correct about how the prototype deals with slack action nowadays. That said, I’d venture a guess you weren’t around when steam powered freights were still plying the mainlines

Equiping Kadee cars
Thanks guys. I'll look into it as I have Kadee's with #5's and 58's. Mostly box cars but a few of the 2 bay covered hoppers as well. I've had the 40' cars apart before so that's not a big deal.

Made your own coupler boxes?
A question for all of you who have made your own coupler boxes to put Sergents in what have you used for the pivot? I am about to make new coupler boxes to replace the incredibly lame ones on a model.
